ABOUT THE ARTISTS

One of Brazil's most cherished musical icons, Ivan Lins was the first Brazilian musician ever to be awarded the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year in 2005. As a world renowned performer and songwriter for more than 30 years, Ivan's jazz classics have been recorded by international stars like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Barbara Streisand, Quincy Jones, Sting, Sergio Mendes, Michael Bublé and countless others. The subject of a major Carnegie Hall tribute concert in 2000, his 1989 hit, "Love Dance," is one of the most recorded songs in musical history.

Described by Time Out New York as "...the man the stars call when they want that otherworldly flavor in the mix...," Cyro Baptista's mastery of Brazilian percussion and self-invented instruments has catapulted him into world renown. Selected by Downbeat jazz critics as the 2011 Percussionist of the Year, Cyro has collaborated with musical legends including Yo Yo Ma, Herbie Hancock, Sting, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Jay-Z, Milton Nascimento, Caetano Veloso, Ivan Lins, Marisa Monte, and many others.

Hailed by O Globo as "one of the most creative of the Brazilian improvisers," Moreira has been described by the legendary Milton Nascimento as "...one of the best guitar players of all time from my home state of Minas Gerais, who combines all the musical elements from Brazil and interprets them in a majestic way." The songwriter behind Toninho Horta's celebrated Verve album title track, Diamantina, Moreira has released a dozen critically acclaimed CDs of his own and has collaborated with many of Brazil's greatest artists.

In addition to his Brazilian Top Ten solo album, Meia Noite Meio Dia, Chico Pinheiro has performed and recorded with the "cream of the crop" of Brazilian artists such as Rosa Passos, Chico César, Dori and Danilo Caymmi, João Donato, César Camargo Mariano, while also making his mark internationally, with Dianne Reeves, Cacha íto Lopez (Buena Vista Social Club), Brad Mehldau, Esperanza Spalding, and many others.

This unique concert features works by composers such as Villa-Lobos, Jobim, Lins, and of course Bach, performed by the orchestra in collaboration with Brazil's greatest stars. Headliners for this special evening include singer/songwriter Ivan Lins, percussionist Cyro Baptista, and guitarists/composers Juarez Moreira and Chico Pinheiro, under the musical guidance of Robert Sadin.
